The island of Tenerife is one of 7 islands that make up the Canary Islands. The capital city of Santa Cruz is a tourist destination because of it’s warm climate, volcanic history and beaches. Spanish is spoken here, as is German and English. The architecture of Tenerife ranges from modern sleek buildings to the colorful traditional facades.
I had a very limited time on the island but made a quick tour around the city center to take in as much as I could. Architecture in Santa Cruz reflects the style of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Traditional Canarian buildings are among those built in the Baroque, Victorian and Renaissance styles.
Calle Castillo is the main shopping thoroughfare in city centre. You can find everything from small boutiques to world known retailers such as this one, Benetton.
